CHUTE MIDDLE SCHOOL/ GENERAL MUSIC CLASS
6TH GRADE
12 WEEK SESSION / MR. HUNTER, INSTRUCTOR
MATERIALS:
Students are always expected to bring to class a pencil, pen, highlighter, and a folder with 2 pockets. –(PLASTIC DIVIDER FOLDERS ARE NOT ALLOWED.) After week 3 you will need your recorder to play in class. You will also need a set of headphones and an adaptor.
BEHAVIOR: The number one rule is RESPECT!
Respect Every Single Person Especially Classmates and Teachers.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. There are opportunities to work with a lot of different musical instruments and equipment. As long as you behave in a respectful manner, you will have fun learning. Remember you are responsible for your own actions and work.
Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Successful.
UNIT TOPICS:
THEORY: Music notation, games, listening skills, vocabulary
KEYBOARDS: Electronic keyboard skills and repertoire
COMPOSITION: various genres, improvisation skills, composing simple melodies on keyboards and computers
TECHNOLOGY: Garage Band, Group PowerPoint presentations, Music Shares
APPRECIATION: Role of music in society, the use of music in everyday living
Paper work will try to be kept to a minimum whenever possible. If an assignment is not finished in class it becomes homework. All work is to be kept in your music folder that will be collected and graded. Be willing to try new things and keep a positive attitude. The class runs much more smoothly when you cooperate.
