MUSIC is the art of sound moving through time to form a structure that evokes a response from the feelings and senses of the hearer. The sound elements selected to create this structure vary in different cultures and historical periods. Within any given culture there is a common practice that determines which combinations of sound will be accepted by the listener as logical and a body of principles that codify their use.
We believe that studying the art of music throughout elementary and middle school trains the brain for higher levels of thinking and reasoning, promotes positive self esteem and self discipline, and has a profound, positive effect on children's lives and futures.

2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
